I was ready to ditch the Eufy X10 pro omni robot vacuum, then I fell in love with it

We put one of the newest robot vacuums on the market through its paces

I’ve lived with one of iRobot’s roombas in my home for years. The roomba 880 from 2013 was the first robot vacuum cleaner to suck up dirt around my house, and I only upgraded it in 2021, when the company launched the roomba j7+.

Needless to say, iRobot’s suckers are reliable machines. The established brand has been making consumer robot vacuums for more than 20 years but, in the past decade, brands of all shapes and sizes have flooded the market with their own robo vacs. From Dyson, Samsung and Eufy to budget-friendlier brands such as Ultenic, Vactidy and Proscenic.

While Anker’s sub-brand Eufy has proven its worth time and time again – three of its autonomous cleaners feature in our round-up of the best robot vacuums – I was still nervous about packing up my ultra-reliable j7+ to test the all-new (and considerably cheaper) Eufy X10 pro omni.

A two-in-one robot vacuum cleaner with a mopping function, self-emptying base and water tank, the Eufy X10 pro omni is – on the surface – a more feature-rich vacuum, compared with the j7+, which doesn’t have a mop function (you’d need the combo j7+ for that).

Touted as having the strongest suction power of any Eufy robot vacuum, with object detection as good as a self-driving car, how good is the X10 in reality? I’ve been putting the latest affordable high-end model from Eufy to the test.

How we tested the Eufy X10 pro omni robot vacuum

When testing the Eufy X10 pro omni, I first looked at how easy it was to set up the robot vacuum. Was it simple to control? How good was its build quality? After setting it up, I let it loose on my carpets and hardwood floors. Did it vacuum efficiently? How good was the mopping function? I wanted to know if it was as smart as the roomba when it came to obstacle avoidance and mapping. Ultimately, I tested it to see if it was as good as its spec sheet suggested. After all, it’s described as a hands-off machine. After two weeks of use, here’s my verdict.

The verdict: Eufy X10 pro omni

The Eufy X10 pro omni and I got off on the wrong foot. I just could not understand how this thing worked when I first took it out of the box but, having got to grips with it, the Eufy X10 pro omni is a marvellous machine. It excels at mopping, boasting a generous water tank that requires infrequent refills. From washing and drying the mops to emptying the bin bag, its automated, hands-off approach makes it really convenient. Plus, its customisable vacuum settings mean it is boffin-level smart. While the app initially bewildered me, I now can’t help but sing the X10’s praises. The best part? It’s just £800 – £400 cheaper than the iRobot roomba combo j7+. Sorry, roomba, I’ve found a new favourite.

The Eufy X10 pro omni will be available in the UK from 5 March. If you reserve it before then, you can get a £200 discount, bringing the price down to £600 for a limited time.
